That’s right. You can’t coast. Life doesn’t coast. Gravity doesn’t coast. Your legs don’t coast.

You know what it takes to cycle a fixed gear?
Brass ball-bearings.
Steel calves.
The will to pedal downhill at 40 miles an hour knowing if you stop, you fly over the bars like a lawn dart.
That’s what it takes.

You call yourself a rider, you son of a derailleur?
I’ve been in this game fifteen years.

What’s your gear ratio?
What’s your skid patch count?
You even know what a skid patch is?

You think this is a hobby? This is the Tour de Life. And winners ride fixed.

First prize is a titanium frame.
Second prize is a set of foot straps.
Third prize is you’re back on training wheels.

You want to save your quads? Go ride a recumbent.
You want to win?
Cycle a fixed gear.
You don’t like it?
Go pedal somewhere else.

But if you’re staying here, you will always be cycling a fixed gear.
Now get out there and ride your bike like it's a shark and if those pedals stop turning you die.

Been riding for 2 years now, primarily as a bomb proof city commuter to work and the beer garden. Note that bottom bracket will fail in super cold Chicago weather.
